"You go first" said my mate Dave. It turned out the layer of grass or the 'crust' on the surface was only a few inches deep. Consequently my legs sank above my knees into a deep ice cold bog. Luckily I was able to pull myself out to safety before sinking any further. Meanwhile Dave took the long (safest) way round the deep peaty bog that I'd just waded through.
